Rishikesh is a city in India’s northern state of Uttarakhand, in the Himalayan foothills beside the Ganges River. The river is considered holy, and the city is renowned as a centre for studying yoga and meditation. Around Swarg Ashram, which is a traffic-free, alcohol-free, vegetarian enclave upstream from Rishikesh town, the eastern bank is lined with temples and ashrams, which are places where people can study spirituality.
This town is one of the best spots to learn meditation and practise yoga. It is adorned with a never-ending series of ashrams, breathtaking nature, and an astonishing atmosphere. The town is a pristine destination if you seek to learn yoga.
The Rishikesh Yoga Centres’ Association says that there are about 300 yoga centres in the Rishikesh, Muni-ki-Reti, and Lakshman Jhula areas. Most of these centres rent their spaces.
Rishikesh is a charming little town and quite different on both sides of the Laxman Jhula Bridge. It’s a little calmer and feels more spacious staying on the west bank and crossing over for the shops, the aarti at the Parmarth Niketan Ashram, and the Beatles/Maharishi Ashram.
Given the pleasant weather in Rishikesh, the city can be visited throughout the year. You can either plan a 2-day trip to Rishikesh or go for 4-5 days and indulge in experiences like yoga, bungee jumping, cafe hopping, rafting, and more.
